Gamified learning experience. The score waits for you! The system listens to your input and only advances to the next note when you hit the correct key.

Best for: Building muscle memory and learning songs step-by-step without pressure.

2. Range & Scale Configuration

This 21-Key Kalimba expands upon the standard layout, offering a wider musical range for richer harmonies. By default, this instrument is tuned to C Major, which is the most common and versatile key for kalimba players.

🎵 Default C Major Scale:

[Low] F3 G3 A3 B3 [Standard] C4 D4 E4 ... C6 ... [High] ...E6
* The 21-key layout adds 4 extra bass notes below the standard Middle C (C4).

3. Advanced Customization (Options Menu)

Customize your playing experience using the Options panel below. Each setting gives you specific control over the instrument:

🎚️ Base Note (Transposition)

This feature acts like a digital Capo, changing the pitch of the central root key.

  • Default: C4 (Middle C).
  • Range: Adjustable from G♯3 to G4.
  • Function: Allows you to match the key of a backing track without changing your fingering.

🔧 Micro-Tuning (Tune Keys)

The "Tune keys" sliders allow you to fine-tune or detune each note individually.

Useful for creating custom non-western scales or achieving a "Lo-Fi" aesthetic by slightly detuning specific tines.

🎹 Arrangement Layout

Switch the physical layout of the notes to match your playing preference:

  • Alternating (Default): Traditional V-shape (Left-Right).
  • Ascending: Linear layout (Low to High) like a piano.
  • Descending: Inverted linear layout.

🔊 Soundfonts (Timbre)

Change the character of the sound. Select FatBoy for a warm, resonant tone, or Keylimba for a sharper, crisper sound.

4. Keyboard Controls

For the most responsive experience, we recommend using your computer keyboard. The key mapping below corresponds to the 21-key layout.

Pro Tip: Press the "Space" key to instantly shift up one octave.

21-Key Kalimba: Features & Songs

Extended Range & Bass Notes

The defining feature of the 21-key layout is the addition of 4 extra bass notes below the standard range. This provides a fuller sound and allows for bass accompaniment that isn't possible on smaller instruments.

Recommended Songs for 21 Keys

These songs utilize the lower octave for a richer performance:

"River Flows in You"
By Yiruma

Uses the lower octaves for the left-hand piano parts.

"Merry-Go-Round of Life"
Howl's Moving Castle

The bass notes provide the necessary waltz rhythm.
